About Vernier
The town of Vernier
Situated on the right bank of the river Rhone, Vernier is surrounded by the neighbouring towns Satigny, Meyrin, le Grand-Saconnex and Geneva.
With its 768 hectares of land the town is the eighth in size in the Canton of Geneva, and with its population of 31'000 inhabitants it is second only to the city of Geneva.
Vernier offers a high quality of life; its village center has preserved its rural and picturesque character, offering a charming and quiet lifestyle merely a few kilometres from Geneva.
Vernier-Village
Vernier-Village is only a few minutes’ walking distance away from "Les Jardins de l'Aulne". It is a village road that goes parallel with the mountain chain of the Jura, evoking the memory of a typical small market town of the region.
History
In the 18th century important families from Geneva used to acquire farmland in the area, on which they built elegant mansions. One of these residences - once a property owned by the Naville family - today accomodates the municipal authorities.
